As I was trained in functional medicine, I began seeing patients in a completely different way. I watched people slowly come off diabetes medications, blood pressure medications, and cholesterol medications, not because they were being “taken off,” but because their bodies no longer needed them. I saw patients lose weight, regain energy, sleep better, and feel hopeful again.
I worked closely with women navigating menopause, many of whom had been told their symptoms were “normal” or something they just had to live with. I also worked with men struggling with hormone imbalances, fatigue, and brain fog. What struck me most wasn’t just the physical changes, it was how happy people became. How grateful they were to finally feel heard.
For many of these patients, it was the first time someone had taken the time to truly listen. The first time someone looked beyond a lab value or a diagnosis and asked, Why is this happening? Instead of immediately adding another medication, we talked about food, inflammation, stress, sleep, hormones, and root causes. We created plans that included targeted nutrition changes, eliminating foods that were harming their bodies, and using supplements intentionally to support healing and not mask symptoms.
That experience stayed with me.
When I returned to urgent care, I began to see things differently. I saw patients on long lists of medications, many of whom didn’t know why they were taking them or what the long-term consequences might be. They were doing exactly what they were told, trusting the system, but often without understanding their own bodies.
Even in a fast-paced urgent care setting, I made it a point to slow down when I could. I educated patients about their medications. I talked to them about sleep, energy, stress, and nutrition. Sometimes it was as simple as suggesting a supplement that might help with the reminder to discuss it with their primary care provider first. And time after time, patients expressed gratitude, not just for the medical care, but for being heard.
That’s when I knew, this is who I am as a provider.
I am a Physician Assistant with a Doctorate of Medical Science, and I have been practicing medicine since 2009. I have experience in family practice, internal medicine, urgent care, functional medicine, and aesthetics. While I value the role traditional medicine plays, my heart truly lives in functional medicine.
When patients understand their bodies, really understand them, everything changes. They become empowered. They ask better questions. They make informed decisions. Many of my patients come to understand their health at a deeper level than they ever thought possible.
Functional medicine isn’t about replacing traditional care, it’s about filling in the gaps. It’s about seeing you as a whole person, not a number, not a diagnosis, and not a lifelong prescription list.
If you’ve ever felt unheard…
If you’ve ever been told “your labs are normal” while knowing something still isn’t right…
If you’ve ever hoped someone would slow down, listen, and help you get to the root cause....
You’re not alone. And you’re exactly who I do this for.
